      Jenna     and     Reggie

*******  25th August 2009 - Jenna has now been successfully mated to Reggie  *******

25th August  '09: Jenna and Reggie have now successfully mated, so if all goes well, we will have a second litter towards the end of October. - Colours expected will be similar to Fizz and Breeze's litter, so blue roans, orange roans and a slight chance of other colours!

24th September '09: Jenna is about  half way now and has left a little of her food today, so a good positive sign that all is going well. She also carries toys around and guards them and is grumpy with the other dogs, so all positive signs!

2nd October '09: Just over 5 weeks and now eating really well, growing nicely and sleeps quite a lot!

9th October '09: This week Jenna looks bigger than Fizz, but being a smaller dog, it shows more..........she is growing nicely and still eating well!

14th October '09: Looking like a little barrel on short legs now, but still eating well!.....looks like we could be having 2 good size litters as both girls are big, so quite a busy time ahead!

Daily Countdown!

20th October '09: Well with just one week to go and Jenna is looking equally as big as Fizz did and sometimes looks even bigger. However, Jenna is much smaller and shorter in the body and legs than Fizz, so this is why it could be she looks so big. I was worried that Fizz, having her pups would trigger Jenna into starting too, but luckily it didn't. She may well still have them early, but now the timing won't be a problem, so a chance to relax .....well, for now! She only ate half her breakfast yesterday, but made up for it at tea-time.

21st October '09: 6 Days to go! - A little panting during the evening, but Jenna had a calm and restful night, most of the night curled up next to me on the camp bed.........well, for the little amount of time I was there! She ate both her meals with relish yesterday and even finished off Poppy's later in the evening, so hopefully she'll go closer to her due date than Fizz did.

22nd October '09: 5 Days to go! - Jenna is very calm and relaxed and just eaten a nice bowl of pasta and egg, with a little glucose........so no imminent signs of early labour.

23rd October '09: 4 Days to go! - Jenna is still hanging on in there, not eating full meals now, but still eating. She is calm and relaxed, but been digging half heartedly this morning, so getting closer!

24th October '09: 3 Days to go! - No change today!

25th October '09: 2 Days to go! - Lots of heavy panting during the evening, but Jenna settled down about 1.30am and then slept quite soundly all night. She is still very calm and relaxed, with the occasional bursts of panting and has eaten some of her breakfast this morning........mainly picking out the best bits!

26th October '09: 1 Day to go! - Although Jenna was panting and digging quite a lot last night, there were no other signs labour was imminent, so Dave offered to stay up so I could go to bed.........it was bliss!!! Things have slightly progressed this morning as Jenna has not eaten and there have been a few other little signs too. But at the moment she is resting between heavy panting and the occasional dig. I am anticipating things will happen tonight, so as usual Jenna is taking it to the wire and will have them on her due date!

6 pm: 1st stages of labour have definitely started, so a long night ahead!!!..........emails will be answered ASAP, no phone calls until after Wednesday please!

11pm: Puppies have started to arrive! 1 very dark blue roan boy so far...........will update in the morning!

7.30am: 6 so far, but more to come! 4 blue roans and 2 orange roans - 3 girls, 3 boys!

3 pm: Final count is 8, but last pup very small and weak, so I am expecting to lose her.........but everything is being done to keep her going, so she does have a chance! 4 boys - 2 orange, 2 blue -- 4 girls - 2 orange, 2 blue, so nice and even.

28th October '09: Sadly we lost the little orange girl pup and we ran into difficulty late afternoon/evening. Jenna had shown most of the signs things had finished and no more pups could be felt, but she still continued contracting and wouldn't settle. The vet came and after an examination, we both agreed there was another pup, but at this stage it was not good. Everything was tried to remove the pup manually to avoid surgery, but unfortunately it wasn't going to budge. She ended having a caesarean, as the last option and the pup was removed, but obviously he had gone too far. At the end of the day, Jenna is fine and well this morning and has 7 healthy, happy pups, that are feeding well.

12th November '09: 16 Days old - Nicki was first to have her eyes open at 10 days, the others have been slower, with 2 of them still not got them fully open, but they are all much more alert now, suggesting their ears are also open. I rattle the dish and call "Puppy, Puppy, Puppy" for their solid food and they all look up and with the older ones being fed more often they all jump up then and sometimes give little barks. They have strated on a tiny amount of solid food, but obviously, being less of them, don't need it as much as Fizz's pups.
